The Wokingham athlete lost to Egypt's Ramadan Darwish in round two in Budapest.
The Olympian was caught by a counter waza-ari from his lower ranked opponent in golden score added time in Hungary.
"I thought I was someone who was in and around the mix," Fletcher told ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Sport's David McDaid. "It was a close fight, but I just made a mistake."
And Fletcher candidly admitted the mistake which led to defeat.
"I went in for an attack, overstretched, and got countered in the golden score period.
"I made a mistake and got countered because of it."
