Children's books: Are they just for children?
Julia Donaldson and Lauren Child discuss the appeal of children's fiction
Are good children’s books as complex and meaningful as ‘proper novels’ - something that adults too can enjoy on a deep level? That is the premise of a new book by Bruce Handy called Wild Things: The Joy of Reading Children's Literature as an Adult, which looks at books from Goodnight Moon to Dr Seuss to the Narnia series.
Former children's laureate Julia Donaldson is creator of The Gruffalo and many other books. Lauren Child is the current children's laureate and author of Charlie and Lola. They discuss why the appeal of children's fiction isn't necessarily limited to young people.
