It is almost 50 years since former Conservative politician Enoch Powell gave his infamous 鈥楻ivers of Blood鈥� speech, warning of civil unrest if unrestricted immigration into the UK was allowed to continue. The incident, which sent shockwaves through the UK and effectively ended Powell鈥檚 political career, is the focus of 鈥榃hat Shadows鈥� currently showing in Edinburgh鈥檚 Lyceum Theatre. Bill Whiteford spoke to actor Ian McDiarmid about playing the politician, and discusses with Simon Heffer, Powell鈥檚 biographer, and journalist Nick Jones, whether his legacy has been crystalized in the Brexit debate.
