The former England captain David Gower has said Ben Stokes ‘is pivotal’ to the Ashes squad. Stokes has been called up to take his place on the team.

Vice-captain Stokes was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm in Bristol in the early hours of Monday morning - he's been released without charge but is still under investigation.

The England team depart for Australia at the end of October looking to retain the hallowed urn against tough opposition.
