Post-16 maths: Addition - clip 01
Addition is adding up numbers to get a total. If you add up different amounts you can get the same total. Think of all the ways you can make £20 with different notes and coins. Sometimes it helps to break numbers down so you can add them together easily. Adding 17 and 19 together is not as easy as adding 20 and 16 – and the answer will be the same. Sometimes you can simply “count on” to add things together, but if the numbers are two big you may have to write the sum down or add the total on a calculator.
