Classical music for the uninitiated

Classical music has a reputation for being difficult to understand and inaccessible to the uninitiated. But the presenter and violinist Clemency Burton-Hill argues that this doesn’t have to be so.

The author of Year of Wonder: Classical Music for Every Day says that as long as you have ears you can respond to this type of music.

The book presents 366 works from the medieval era to the present day – one piece to listen to for every day of the year. Her choice this month is a movement from the liturgy St. John Chrysostom by Rachmaninov – We Hymn Thee.
