Why you can't always trust an advert on social media
More people are now complaining to the Advertising Regulator about ads on social media. The Advertising Standards Authority says complaints about social media ads have tripled in the last three years with more than 800 complaints so far this year. The problem with social media is knowing what is an ad. New rules introduced in 2014 say celebrities and bloggers who post films and comments online that they are paid to promote must mark their posts either #ad or #sponsored. And they’re not all doing that. Miles Lockwood is the Director of Complaints and Investigations at the Advertising Standards Authority. He explains to Winifred Robinson what is going on.
