Theatre governance

The Old Vic Theatre has confirmed that in the course of an investigation it has received 20 personal testimonies of alleged inappropriate behaviour by Kevin Spacey whilst in post between 2004 and 2015. Those affected said they "felt unable to raise concerns" about his behaviour, and that he "operated without sufficient accountability".
As questions are asked of The Old Vic's theatre board in light of these allegations, we discuss the role of the board in British theatre with Rt Hon Ed Vaizey MP, former Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries and current board member of the National Youth Theatre plus Malcolm Sinclair, President of Equity, and theatre critic Lyn Gardner. We started by asking Malcolm Sinclair what theatre board trustees are for.
