Post-16 maths: Percentages clip 2
A percentage is an amount out of one hundred – 100 percent is a whole . if you have 50 out of 100 that’s 50%. If you have 25 out of 100 that’s 25%. It’s important to remember that the whole may not be 100 things. If you have a box of 6 eggs then 50% of them will be half, which is three eggs. You can write a percentage as a fraction out of 100 so 63% is 63/100. To calculate one percent of an amount you simply divide it by 100. If you need to calculate 10% off a price - first find one percent – then multiply up. And don’t forget to subtract the discount from the original amount.
