ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Minute: On 'triple talaq' in India
In India, the cabinet has backed a bill that will make the Islamic practice of instant divorce a criminal offence. India is one of a handful of countries where a Muslim man can divorce his wife in minutes by saying the word talaq (divorce) three times. Jill McGivering, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s South Asia Editor at the World Service, explains why some Muslim women and rights groups have been campaigning for years against the custom.
