How to save a crumbling cathedral
In Britain - a country with an established Church - the museums are free but you have to pay to get into many cathedrals. In secular France, it’s the other way round. Or has been until now. The person appointed to look after French heritage sites has proposed entrance fees as a means of solving the problems of their repairs and upkeep. John Laurenson tours the crumbling parts of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris for his report.
