A 3-part film, on the importance of English FS in HSC, e.g. the Level 1 skills of oral communication, reading and summarising information, detecting meaning and interpreting texts
A short docu-drama, broken into three parts, demonstrating how important the English Level 1 Functional Skills of Speaking, Listening and Communication skills are to professional relationships in the Health and Social Care Sector. The film illustrates the importance of reading and summarising information from different sources, detecting meaning, interpreting what a certain text result really means in practice, considering and presenting information clearly and persuasively, to suit the audience. The action takes place in a Wellness Centre. In P1, a client is receiving the results, on a printout, of a general health check, and is told that his blood pressure is a little high and he should see his GP. He is rather anxious about this and the health checker tells him he may be able to see one of her colleagues for advice. He readily agrees. In part 2 the checker meets with her colleague who tells her that he does have some time to meet the client but it would have to be almost immediately because he is busy later. In part 3 the senior checker meets with the patient and offers him some general advice about reducing pressure, such as improving diet etc. The patient is reassured. There are also interviews with staff at the Centre about the crucial importance of good Functional Skills.
