Controlling my stammer through music
A young woman who has had a stammer since childhood has gained confidence in her voice through writing and singing songs.
Jessie Stride was bullied at school for the way she spoke:
“I am such a talkative, confident person, and before everyone just thought that I was really shy.”
“When I would sing, I wouldn’t stammer, so that’s how I expressed myself”, said Jessie.
“When I sung I was just me, and not the person who was labelled to have a stammer.“
“It just really helped me to find my voice and to be a lot more accepting to the fact that I have a stammer”, added the 21-year-old.
Jessie’s song ‘Control’ is about living with a stammer, and the music video features other young stammerers.
