Gabriel Prokofiev started the Nonclassical events organisation and record label in 2004, with the aim of supporting contemporary music taking classical music out of concert halls and into night clubs and gig venues.

This Sunday (18.03.18) Nonclassical host an event at Village Underground venue in East London as part of this year's Convergence Festival. The evening is called Rise Of The Machines and it will explore the influence of computers and AI on music. It will feature the world premiere of the first ever Concerto for Drum Machine & Orchestra, a work in five parts which places the drum machine centre stage as solo musical instrument, bringing the sounds of dance music and hip-hop to the classical world. Composers Beni Giles, Laurence Osborn, Josephine Stephenson, Jo Thomas and Max de Wardener have contributed towards the work.

A 30 piece orchestra will be conducted by Jessica Cottis, hailed in the UK music press as 鈥渙ne to watch."

Also performing at Rise Of The Machines are the Langham Research Centre. Founded in 2003 by 蜜芽传媒 Radio 3 producers they work with vintage equipment to perform 20th century classic electronic repertoire. Nick Ryan & John Matthias will also bring the performance of Cortical Songs a work for string ensemble and solo violin in which the orchestra is partially controlled by the neural patterns of a tiny computer brain.
