Generations: The silent generation
In a series of features, Radio 4's PM programme has a definitive guide to each generation and asks which one had it the worst.
According to research by the Resolution Foundation think tank, the silent generation came of age during World War Two. They were the first generation to benefit from Britain's post-war mass house building programme and are the oldest generation alive today.
