Tom Kerridge has said restaurant standards have been raised by people鈥檚 increased interest in food, in part thanks to TV cookery shows.

The chef told Nihal Arthanayake: 鈥淲e鈥檙e one of the best and most diverse food scenes in the world.鈥�

Commenting on the problem experienced by high street chains Prezzo, Jamie鈥檚 Italian and Byron, all of which have announced restructuring and branch closures, he added: 鈥淪omething somewhere is not right, those profit margins are being eaten away at and it鈥檚 very difficult to make money.鈥�
