A migrant’s journey: ‘I am Swedish now’
Migration is a key issue in Sweden’s general election this weekend, the country having taken in over 160 thousand of refugees in 2015. Jihad Eshmawi is one of those who has successfully integrated; having fled the Syrian war as a stateless Palestinian five years ago, he has now been naturalised as a Swedish citizen and lives with his mother and three younger brothers in Gothenburg. He tells Dan Damon his own perilous journey to a new world.
