How the Parkland students inspired me to write a play
Rebecca Sweeney’s play Squall debates gun control in drama. She was inspired by the March for Our Lives youth protest movement that swept across the United States, after the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida in February 2018. The cultural memory of the 1996 Dunblane massacre in Scotland also informed her alternative reality of drills, lockdowns and guns in classrooms.
Squall was first performed at The Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh and recorded especially for The Cultural Frontline on the ѿý World Service.
