US President Donald Trump has two constituencies, Noam Chomsky tells Newsnight's Emily Maitlis.

鈥淥ne is the actual constituency- corporate power, extreme wealth - and he鈥檚 serving them magnificently," Mr Chomsky says. "Then there鈥檚 also a voting constituency鈥� them he鈥檚 actually harming seriously.鈥�

Speaking on the day before the US mid-terms, the political activist added that part of Mr Trump's "rhetorical excesses" were undertaken to show "I'm really your defender ... I'm working for you, I'm gonna protect you... while quietly I'm stabbing you in the back constantly".
