As Angela Merkel steps down from her party leadership, Newsnight go to Germany to ask what it might mean for the country and for Europe.
Despite resigning as leader of the ruling Christian Democratic party, Ms Merkel plans to continue running the country as chancellor until 2021.
But will she last that long?
