Totoro hits Chinese cinema 30 years late
Despite being iconic across Asia, Japanese animation classic My Neighbour Totoro has only just been cleared for public release in China, 30 years on from its original release.
The movie has a cult following, yet has never been officially screened in China. The movie is the first Studio Ghibli movie to ever be released in the country, which has a strict quota on the number of foreign films.
Film4 Online's Editorial Director Michael Leader spoke to World Update about why My Neighbour Tortoro has such a huge appeal and the background to its late arrival in China.
