Is Venezuela heading toward civil war?

More than half of the countries which make up the European Union have joined the US in recognising Juan Guaido as Venezuela's interim leader. It follows the rejection of a deadline set by the UK, France, Germany, Spain and others for President Nicolas Maduro to call new elections.

But with the majority of the military still standing with Maduro, is the country stumbling towards civil war?

Kirsty Wark talks to Venezuelan opposition politician Juan Andres Mejia - who heads the National Assembly commission - and Eric Farnsworth, a former US State department official and now the Vice President of the Council of the Americas.

Mark Urban reports.
