Breck Bednar murder: Snapchat delaying police investigation

What gives Snapchat the right to withhold information into a police inquiry investigating a paedophile?

It has emerged that the family of Breck Bednar, the 14-year-old groomed and murdered by a man he met online, are being taunted on social media.

Chloe Bednar alleges Lewis Daynes, who killed her brother Breck in Grays, Essex, has sent sick messages online. Chloe Bednar says the messages include information only Lewis Daynes would know, but there is no way of verifying if it’s true.

Social media company Snapchat has claimed the police need to go through a one year process to access the information. The company has been criticised for the delay in handing over data to police.

Daynes is currently serving a life sentence for the murder.
