German MEP: Why the EU won’t make deal changes

A German member of the European Parliament has said that a “lack of trust” between the EU and the UK means any clarification on the withdrawal agreement is “a problem”.

Asked by 5 Live’s Anna Foster why the EU would not make changes to the deal, German MEP Gabriele Zimmer said it was because “the majority of members of the House of Commons would not be interested”.

“They’ve decided before that they [don’t want] to accept the withdrawal agreement – so what should we offer again? It was not possible to get a common agreement,” she said.
