Boxer at risk of deportation

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Office may deport Kelvin Fawaz under an operation targeting foreign criminals

A 31 year old boxer who was once the amateur light middleweight champion of England and a possible contender to represent the UK in the 2012 Olympics is being threatened with imminent deportation to Nigeria. Kelvin Bilal Fawaz was born in Nigeria and was brought to the UK at the age of 14, ending up in care. When 18 he had no permanent legal status and is now being pursued by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Office under Operation Nexus - which targets foreign criminals. He says he has committed only minor offences, none of which involves a prison sentence. Two days ago he was unexpectedly taken into a detention centre. Mishal Hisan spoke to him on the phone from there.

In a statement the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Office told us it "has a duty to protect the public by removing those who commit criminal offences".
