'... it was quite tough to hear...' - Plymouth Argyle promise zero-tolerance approach to discriminatory chants at matches.
Picture the scene.
You go to a football match, ready to cheer your team on – only to hear the worst kind of homophobic abuse being sung from the stands.
Not only that, but it’s coming from your own supporters as well.
That’s what happened with Plymouth Argyle this weekend – as the founder of the club’s LGBT fan group was forced to publicly condemn numerous incidents of homophobic chanting made by Argyle supporters during Saturday’s loss at Northampton.
Argyle officials say they can’t comment on the specifics of the incident in Northampton – but that they will work with the authorities to eradicate discriminatory behaviour at matches.
They’re also encouraging supporters to report all inappropriate comments and chanting – and say that they will continue, as a club, to have a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination.
