‘I’ve always wanted to change perceptions of women’s boxing’

Irish boxing star Katie Taylor has told Radio 5 Live it’ll be a “history-making moment” when she becomes the first female to headline a UK arena event.

Taylor, who is aiming to become a two-weight world champion, will take on Christina Linardatou at Manchester Arena in November. She told Radio 5 Live’s Anna Foster she’s “always wanted to change the perceptions of women’s boxing”.

“I’ve felt like I’ve always pushed boundaries and I’ve always tried to make history in this sport,”

Local fighter Anthony Crolla will also feature on the undercard and Taylor says she’s “a small bit embarrassed” about headlining the card ahead of him: “What an amazing ambassador he has been for boxing so it’s just amazing to be a part of his night as well.”
