Sanders and Buttigieg take early lead ahead of State of the Union

As the President prepares his State of the Union address, the Democrats released just over 60% of the results from the Iowa Caucus with Buttigieg and Sanders ahead.

With the Senate impeachment trial soon at an end, it seems almost certain the Republican majority will acquit their President.

His State of the Union address will be a chance for him to revel in facing down an opposition party trying to remove him from office.

Meanwhile, the race to find his opponent fell into chaos as the winner of the Iowa caucus was not clear amid technical problems.

The Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Troy Price announced the release of 62% of the votes and Pete Buttigieg and Bernie Sanders appeared to hold an early lead. But he gave no time-frame for the release of the remaining results.

David Grossman takes us through what went wrong on the night for the Democrats, and Emily is joined by Trump transition team member Bill Palatucci, former Clinton administration official Lara Brown, and Republican strategist Whit Ayres to discuss what the results mean.
