Government faces pressure over Jamaica deportation flight

The government plans to deport convicted offenders to Jamaica next week.

But Newsnight has learnt that campaigners intend to mount a legal challenge to try and stop it.

The Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI) said the ѿý Office's planned charter flight from the UK to Kingston on February 11 will have a capacity for up to 50 people.

MPs, support services for migrants and activists have criticised the flight, pointing out that it is taking place before the publication of the long-delayed “Windrush lessons learned” review.

Newsnight saw leaked recommendations from a draft of the review that recommended the government consider ending the deportation of foreign-born offenders who came to the UK as children.
