"...they raised the British flag, and I cried..." - European champion John Wrighton on the Olympics and his athletics career
For a time in the 1950s, he was one of the biggest names in British athletics.
But if you live in Feock, there’s every chance you’ve walked past John Wrighton without ever realising what a star he once was.
The 86 year old won two gold medals at the European Championships in 1958 – and captained the British team at the 1960 Olympics in Rome.
He's a sensational character who is also very modest about his achievements - and in this extended interview, he's been telling our weekend presenter Jack Murley about the part he played in one of the golden ages of British athletics.
If you're a sports fan, this is a must-listen!
