Paul Krugman: Some people are arguing in bad faith
The Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman has said some political arguments have more legitimacy than others.
He told Hardtalk's Stephen Sackur there could be a genuine debate about whether high-speed rail was necessary but not on whether tax cuts paid for themselves.
He said: "I would be acting in bad faith if I pretended that there was a legitimate case for the proposition that tax cuts paid for themselves. There is no such case. There are no serious economists who believe in this."
