UK Government faces criticism over unclear shutdown measures
Strict new measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the UK have been put into place – but the government has faced criticism that the shutdown rules have caused confusion for workers.
The new measures, in place for at least three weeks, tell Britons to only leave home to go to work "where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home”.
The measures, announced by ministerial broadcast on Monday 23 March, further state that people may only leave home to exercise once a day and shop for essential items and fulfil any medical or care needs.
Shops selling non-essential goods have been told to shut and gatherings in public of more than two people who do not live together will be prohibited.
Emily Maitlis is joined by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, former Conservative Party leader Iain Duncan-Smith and former Manchester Chief Constable Peter Fahy.
