Why our quartet played to 2,292 plants

When the Liceu Opera House in Barcelona opened its doors after many months of lockdown, it did so with an unusual new performance devised by the artist Eugenio Ampudia. Instead of playing to an audience, the Uceli String Quartet performed Puccini to an audience of 2,292 plants - representing each of the seats in the concert hall. Víctor Garcia de Gomar, the Liceu’s Artistic Director, speaks to the Cultural Frontline about the inspiration behind the piece.
