Richard Chiassaro: We ramp up the training next year
While the Olympic Games should have got under way amidst greater fan-fare and surely plenty of fireworks yesterday, our Essex Paralympians would still have had about a month to prepare for their games.
Those games, like the Olympics, would also have seen plenty of British success in Tokyo, but also like the Olympics that will just have to wait until next summer.
One person for whom that wait is particularly agonising is Richard Chiassaro.
The 38-year-old Wheelchair Racer from Harlow competed at Rio in 2016, having narrowly missed out on his home games four years earlier.
Since then his form has seen him break European and World records and win medals at the World Para Atheltics Chamionships in 2017 and 2019.
