Former Supreme Court Judge: Overriding part of Brexit treaty is ‘utterly wrong’
The former Supreme Court judge, Lord Carnwath, has told ѿý Radio 5 live it’s “utterly wrong” that the government plans to override parts of the Brexit treaty agreed with the European Union in domestic legislation.
The Internal Market Bill, which reaches its final stages in the Commons on Tuesday, has infuriated the EU. Earlier this month, Brussels threatened legal action if it was not changed by the end of September.
Robert Carnwath, who retired from the Supreme Court in March, told Emma Barnett: "One of this country's great selling points is our respect for the rule of law and that the common law system is applied and respected all around the world. If we lose that, we really do lose something very important.”
