Dr Anthony Fauci warns against gatherings at Christmas

Dr Anthony Fauci, Director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, tells Newsnight he’s concerned household mixing over Thanksgiving and Christmas may “amplify” the US’s coronavirus spike and warns that December into January are going to be “very, very difficult months”.

Speaking to Mark Urban, Dr Fauci warns people against travelling over Christmas and advises people to keep gatherings “to as few people as possible”.

He also warns that while there is “light at the end of the tunnel” with the Covid vaccine, the public health impact of it won’t be felt “for at least a few months”.
