Deborah James: 'All life is valuable'
The co-presenter of podcast You, Me and the Big C has said Lord Sumption’s idea that some lives are “less valuable” is a hideous concept.
Deborah James told 5 Live presenter Stephen Nolan: “all life is valuable and we value it all equally regardless of who we are”.
Appearing on ѿý’s The Big Questions and arguing against lockdown for everyone, Lord Sumption had said he did not agree that “all lives are of equal value”.
Deborah James, who has stage 4 bowel cancer, had replied “With all due respect, I am the person who you say their life is not valuable.”
To which Lord Sumption added “I didn’t say your life was not valuable, I said it was less valuable.”
Deborah James told Stephen Nolan: "I think my only question back to Lord Sumption would be would he have said the same to his own children and I think we all have to remember that these decisions about old people young people they are all somebody’s loved ones and I think we can’t shy away from that fact."
