Harprakash Nair was admitted to hospital with Covid-19 and pneumonia just before his 100th birthday.

He is thought to be the first Asian man in Newcastle to live to 100 鈥� having emigrated with his wife to the UK from India in 1952.

Speaking to 5 Live鈥檚 Naga Munchetty, Harprakash 鈥� known as Hari to his friends 鈥� said he is an 鈥渙rdinary man鈥� and is 鈥渧ery grateful鈥� for the doctors and nurses treating him.

The great-grandfather is recovering from his illnesses and is looking forward to seeing his wife and family again.
