Classics with NOW: Brahms, 'Schicksalslied'
Brahms’s Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny) is a choral setting of a poem by Friedrich Hölderlin, one of the most prominent writers in German Romanticism. The poem references the spiritual and earthly realms, and evokes images of nature.
Brahms structures the work in three sections, the first and third beginning with an orchestral prelude and the second reflecting the dark and sombre third stanza of the poem.
This performance by ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ NOW and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ NCW took place at St David’s Hall in 2012, with conductor Grant Llewellyn.
