‘We are looking at the tip of the iceberg’

This week an urgent enquiry’s been launched to investigate how alleged systemic racism in the NHS manifests itself in maternity care.

We spoke to Sandra Igwe, who set up The Motherhood Group to support other Black mothers after her own experiences of giving birth, and Dr Karen Joash, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Imperial College and the spokesperson for race equality at The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

They told Anita why they feel Black women aren’t listened to, and shared their experiences and what needs to change.
