Cardiff City 1-0 Real Madrid - 50 years on

Laura Kenyon tells the story of one of the most memorable nights in Cardiff City history.

Fifty years ago, the United Kingdom had only just switched to decimal currency, legendary rock group Led Zeppelin performed ‘Stairway to Heaven’ live for the very first time and TV legend Ed Sullivan entertained American viewers for the final time.

But for fans of Cardiff City, March 1971 will always be remembered for the club’s finest result since winning the FA Cup in 1927, when Jimmy Scoular’s Bluebirds beat Spanish giants Real Madrid on a memorable night at Ninian Park.
