Classics with NOW: Fanny Mendelssohn, Three a cappella Choruses
Fanny Mendelssohn was born in Hamburg in 1805, the oldest of four siblings including her younger brother Felix Mendelssohn. A talented pianist, Fanny Mendelssohn was also a brilliant composer, writing some 460 pieces of music in her lifetime, from music for the piano and the orchestra to choral works. Originally, she had to publish her works under Felix’s name, as he didn’t believe she should publish her own compositions. Only when she turned 41 did she start to publish under her own name.
These three wonderful a cappella choruses, 'Waldeinsam', 'Seid gegrusst' & 'Morgendammerung', were performed as part of a Chorus Celebration concert in ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Hoddinott Hall, December 2013, by ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Chorus of Wales with Adrian Partington.
