One year since George Floyd was murdered
WNBA star Napheesa Collier says; “It’s sparked a real change in the entire world, not even just our nation,” as she reflects a year on since George Floyd was murdered by police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis.
The date was the 25th of May 2020.
Those images were shared around the world, and it led sports men and women from around the world to make a stand, by taking a knee or joining protests or even using their platform to speak out about race and wider social injustice.
Basketball stars in the NBA and WNBA have been at the forefront of the fight for equality since then, using their voices to try and effect change.
Ed Harry has been speaking to Collier, a basketball player in the WNBA for Minnesota Lynx about her feelings and what she remembers about that day.
