Tales of Senegalese soldiers in WW1 wins 2021 International Booker prize

At Night All Blood is Black by David Diop and translated from French by Anna Moschovakis tells the story of the Senegalese soldiers who fought for France on the Western Front during World War One. The book and translation has won the 2021 International Booker prize

Two hundred thousand Senegalese men were sent to France to fight. Speaking through a translator, David Diop explains to the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Tim Franks how he wanted to present the experiences of those soldiers. They were also joined by Anna Moschovakis, who translated the book from French, who describes the rhythms of the language, and her pride at the book's success.
