Myanmar medics targeted by military for treating injured protesters

It’s been four months since Myanmar’s military ousted an elected government and triggered a wave of nationwide protest.

In the crackdown that followed more than 800 people have been killed, and thousands more wounded.

Newsnight has spoken to three doctors who are in hiding after the military started targeting medics for treating wounded demonstrators. They tell us in some cases their medical equipment has been confiscated and some of their colleagues have been arrested and imprisoned.

Emir Nader reports.

Newsnight approached both the Ministries of Health and Foreign Affairs in Myanmar and the Embassy in London for comment on the issues raised in our report. They have not responded.
