Peter Schmeichel: UEFA decision to resume Denmark vs Finland was 'ridiculous'
The legendary footballer says the options given to players after Eriksen collapsed were 'ridiculous'.
Peter Schmeichel has called the decision to resume the Euro 202 game between Denmark and Finland "ridiculous".
The legendary Danish footballer said that following the collapse of Christian Eriksen on the pitch, UEFA should have given players a better option.
Talking to Chris Warburton on 5 Live Breakfast, he said: "UEFA gives the players the option to go out and play the game, or to come back and play it today.
"So you go back to your hotel, you cannot sleep, you might not sleep because watching trauma like that has a massive effect on you."
He referred to the moment as the "worst two hours" of football he has seen.
Eriksen collapsed shortly before half-time in Denmark's opening Euro 2020 game against Finland on Saturday.
The 29-year-old Inter Milan player had emergency medical treatment on the pitch before being taken to hospital.
Once Eriksen was awake in hospital, the players agreed to resume the match, with Finland going on to win 1-0.
Announcing the game would resume last night, UEFA said: "Following the request made by players of both teams, UEFA has agreed to restart the match between Denmark and Finland tonight."
