'Diamond' rush in South African village
Hundreds of people have descended on a village in KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa in search of treasure. The rush to KwaHlathi follows reports of a herdsman unearthing diamonds in an open field.
Villagers told the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Nomsa Maseko that people had been arriving in busloads to dig - something the government has said is illegal. She says some people have told her they are destitute and they've had to borrow money or club together to raise the necessary funds to get to the village.
"The people we've interviewed this morning are carrying these rocks and they're asking us if we know if they're real diamonds and if they should continue to dig further... They're quite shiny so many of them think that it is diamonds. Others say it just looks like shards of broken glass."
