Gabon is paid to protect its rainforest
Gabon has become the first African country to be recognised and recompensed for its work in preserving its forests and parks and reducing CO2 emissions. The United Nations sponsored CAFI (the Central African Forest Initiative) has given Gabon the first payment of $17 million. Over the next ten years, the country will receive $150 million. Professor Lee White, Gabon's environment minister, explains what makes Gabon's forests so special and the significance of this environmental achievement.
