Madagascar: Hundreds of thousands at risk of starvation
Reports from the UN's World Food Programme suggest that hundreds of thousands of people in southern Madagascar are going hungry because of the worst drought in 40 years. It's believed that thousands of people are already living in famine-like conditions, with many at risk of starving to death.
Lola Castro, the World Food Programme's regional director for southern Africa describes the situation in Madagascar, and the series of disasters that have led to such a desperate situation, where people are foraging for cactus, locusts and even soil to eat.
"There is sand, poverty and desperation everywhere you look."
