President Joe Biden has outlined new measures to crack down on rogue gun dealers and illegal gun trafficking, amid a nationwide surge in homicides.

Brian Freskos is a Chicago-based correspondent for The Trace, which reports on America's gun violence crisis. He told Newsday:

鈥淪ome dealers go for decades without an inspection. And when they do inspect, they often find gun dealers selling guns without conducting background checks, selling guns to underage people, selling guns to convicted felons and domestic abusers. You can just go online and find someone who is selling one, meet them in a parking lot and buy it out of the trunk of their car and that is perfectly legal. We found that some dealers followed the rules鈥� but there were others who created a culture of impunity.鈥�
